«LUANDA, Angola, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was greeted in Luanda, Angola, Sunday by the country's foreign minister.
Angolan Foreign Minister Assuncao Dos Anjos told Clinton on the airport tarmac that women in Angola are making great strides and are moving swiftly ahead, The New York Times reported.
Clinton arrived in the energy-rich country as part of an 11-day trip to seven African nations. She was to meet with Angolan President Eduardo dos Santos in Luanda to discuss good governance and the economic potential of the nation's energy resources, her aides said.
Angola is a major supplier of petroleum and liquefied natural gas to the United States.
Clinton arrived in Angola after a two-day stop in South Africa where she met with President Jacob Zuma and visited a housing project near Cape Town, where she and daughter, Chelsea, laid the first bricks 12 years ago, CNN reported Sunday.
Clinton began her trip in Kenya and is due to visit Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Cape Verde before returning home.
"In each nation, she will emphasize Africa as a place of opportunity, built on an ethic of responsibility," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said.»
